I bought Apple (AAPL) this afternoon since I am underweight technology in the portfolio. This is a blue-chip stock that is 40% off of its previous highs, trades at only 10 times earnings, and just closed above the 50 (significant). Blackberry, a re-emerging competitor, also happens to be struggling (it got an analyst downgrade for poor debut sales of its latest phone, can’t hurt). We are buying Apple to fill our tech spot in the portfolio, for its 137 billion in cash- that’s more than the country of Cyprus, valuation (it’s dirt cheap), catalysts (technical strength on the chart and various new product launches like the iphone 4S), and for its leading innovation in the smart phone industry.
