Selling Calls on EMC?
Update 11-30-2012: So did it work?
Update 11-30-2012: So did it work?
We added to EMC today on the pullback at the 20 day moving average. We would have bought calls on SPY or UPRO but decided to spread our risk out a bit better by adding to our core tech holding EMC, which also displays a similar chart as the S&P 500 (Both are on the 20). If…
Even though some stocks are attractive, the S&P 500 has broken its support of the 200 day moving average. Remember, a rising or falling tide brings with it all ships. Visit our older updates where we revised our strike prices down. It will come in handy at this time. However, there is no need to…
One of our core holdings- FXI- is coming down to an attractive buy point. China has slowed but is showing positive data points for bottoming out. As Jim Cramer put it: ” There have been concerns of a hard landing in China. We’ve argued that China is undergoing a soft landing and that recent data points (ISM, PMI,…
Buying UPRO at $79.00 yesterday and putting the stop-loss below worked out in our favor today. As you can see, the green bar on the black line (200 day moving average), or $80.00 per share, is where the bounce occurred. The overall portfolio is up nicely and UPRO is up 3% alone. Not bad for a day’s work.
Even before the elections, we notified readers that the S&P 500 was rolling over (see older posts). We also said that we would not do anymore buying until we broke out of that range or got a lot cheaper. Well, we got a lot cheaper. It is all in the technicals though because, election or no election, this…
Not much to update about for the weekend. The market reacted poorly to an improving jobs number that was clearly not what the street was looking for, sending the Dow to a 140 point plunge. There was also a good consumer confidence report- best since 2007. China, in the meantime, has had very positive numbers coming out…
For all of you native Houstonians out there, here is a play that hits close to home- literally. We are placing Cameron International on our strong buy list for the portfolio. In order to manage the portfolio effectively, we will be staying with 10 names and, as a result, we will have to swap a…
Good afternoon folks! The S&P 500 is finding support on the 75 day moving average (orange line) and is now digesting a slew of companies’ earnings released for the latest quarter. Truthfully, earnings have been solid with almost 60% beating- pretty much in-line with historical standards. So why aren’t we coming back faster? Beats me. Apparently, companies’ estimates are…
I have always hated these high yielding dividend plays because I always got burned. I just didn’t have the patience or the trust needed for a 15% dividend yielder. I mean after all, one has to question a 15% dividend. Also, you have to stay in it for the long haul if you want that return (1 year)….
